Numerous Deaths Reported In and Near Earlville From Influenza

Earlville, Ia., Dec. 14 - Howard C. Lynch, the Illinois Central Station Agent, died at his home Friday night of pneumonia, superinduced by influenza. He had bee ill about two weeks. He was about forty-two years of age and is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Grace Matthews of this place. He had been station agent here for the past eighteen years.

Earlville, Dec. 21 -- Funeral services for Howard C. Lynch were held at the grave in Fairview cemetery Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Masonic fraternity. Howard Clarence Lynch was born in Osage, Ia., Feb 1st, 1880 and died in Earlville, Dec. 13th, 1918, aged 38 years, 10 months, and 12 days. He came to Earlville about 18 years ago and for 16 years was agent at the Illinois Central depot. He was married to Miss Grace Matthews of Earlville, June 2nd, 1903. He leaves besides his wife, his mother, one brother and two sisters, all residing in Waterloo.

He was a member of Square Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and was past master at the time of his death. He was a member of Iowa Consistory No. 2 El Kahir Temple Mystic Shrine, Olive Branch Chapter, R.A. M. Nazareth Commandery No. 33 Knights Templar, Acacia Chapter, O.E.S., and Waverly Lodge No. 628, I.O.O.F.

Relatives from out of town in attendance were Walter Lynch of Waterloo; Loren Davis of Des Moines, Lafe Matthews and family of Manchester, Mr. and Mrs. Hayes Matteus of Waterloo, and Mr. and Mrs. John Matthews of Greeley.
