Howard L. Schmitz, 84, of Earlville died at home Jan. 26, 2006, of cancer.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at Earlville United Parish by the Rev. Ross Wyman. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour before services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Earlville.

Howard is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Schmitz of Earlville; a son, Alan L. (Joyce) Schmitz of Stout; two grandsons, Andrew A. Schmitz of Cedar Falls and Daniel A. Schmitz of Stout; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Schmitz of Bailey, Colo.; and a brother-in-law, Don Powell of Waverly.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Esther Schmitz; two sons, Roger L. and David L. Schmitz; and a sister, Vivian Powell.
