EARLVILLE, Iowa - Ethel D. Scovel, 84, of Earlville, died after a long illness Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Earlville United Parish, with the Rev. Lynn Patrick officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Earlville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Clifton Funeral Home, Earlville, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Scovel was a meat cutter for Holder's Locker, in Manchester, and Kramer's Locker, in Earlville, for 37 years.

She was born on Dec. 22, 1914, in Earlville, daughter of Albert and Olive (Hunt) Kramer. She married Howard "Shorty" Scovel on May 3, 1932, in Earlville; he died on Oct. 9, 1983.

She was a member of Earlville United Parish, Larkin Club, Earlville Federated Garden Club, Bridge Club and Monday Club.

Surviving are a son, James "Scoop" (Marsha) Scovel, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Christy (Tom) Rusk, Kelly (Amy) Scovel, Kerry (Sue) Scovel and Jay Scovel, all of Dubuque; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leta Mae (Ed) Holtz, of Edgewood, and Mary Jean (Wallace) Wheeler, of Earlville; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Kramer, of Earlville.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Donald; and a brother, Robert Kramer.
