DURANGO, Iowa -- Mary Ann Smith, 76, of Sparta, Wis., formerly of Durango, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at ManorCare Health Services, Platteville, Wis.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Peosta, with the Rev. Richard Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Earlville. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2659 Kennedy Road, Dubuque.

She was born on Sept. 2, 1933, in Manchester, daughter of Erwin and Edythe (Diesch) Parkin. She received her education in the Earlville-area schools.

She married Lloyd Smith on Feb. 23, 1957, in Dubuque.

Mary Ann worked at Interstate Power and farmed with her husband in the Durango area for 32 years. She enjoyed many hobbies, including crocheting, bingo, movies, antiques and ceramics.

Surviving are her husband, Lloyd; her children, Russell (Suzette) Smith, of Durango, Lori (Richard) Johnson, of Menomonie, Wis., Paula (Steve) Hardin, of Dubuque, Janna Smith, of Missouri City, Texas, Christine (Chad) Ditter, of Johnston, Jolyne (Jeff) Westerby, of Grand Island, Neb., and Darcy (John) Kafer, of North Liberty; 18 grandchildren, Jesse, Joshua, Amber and Ashley Smith, Cody, Kelsey and Trevor Johnson, Natalie, Shelby and Derek Hardin, Sydney and Hailey Ditter, Jon, Nathan, Coleman and Elizabeth Westerby, Logan and Isabelle Kafer; a sister, Delores Parkin, of Dubuque; and a brother, Gene Parkin, of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
