John "Jack" Diesch 1926-2014

John "Jack" Diesch, 88, of Marion, formerly of Edgewood, beloved husband of Lucy, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at Summit Pointe in Marion. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Edgewood, by the Rev. Mike Jackson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Private family inurnment: Fairview Cemetery, Earlville, at a later date.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Lucille (Kammerman); their children, Diedra Diesch, Janelle Every, Brad (Anna) Diesch and Kurt (Renee) Diesch; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. His sister, Francis Gearhart, also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maude (Barger) Diesch; sisters, Edythe Parkin, Dorice Maxwell and Arlyne Williams; and brother, Maurice Diesch.

Jack was born May 3, 1926, and grew up near Earlville. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. He married soon after his return, and raised his family in the Edgewood area. Together, he and Lucy farmed and operated a fertilizer/chemical application business. Jack was a past master of Avalon Masonic Lodge #606 in Edgewood and served on the Ed-Co school board and many of the Trinity United Methodist Church boards.

He retired to Bella Vista, Ark., where after 17 great years Jack and Lucy returned to Iowa to be near family and lived in Marion until his death. Jack loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bicycling, ballroom dancing and leading dance classes in northeast Iowa. He particularly enjoyed playing golf and shot his first hole in one at the age of 80.

The family would like to publicly acknowledge and thank the staff at Summit Pointe and Hospice Compassus for their loving care and support of our loved one, and also to us.
