Obituary: Mrs. Martha Aubrey

Mrs. Martha Aubrey died at her home in this city Wednesday evening July 25, 1906, after a lingering illness. She was 81 years, six months and 14 days of age.

Mrs. Aubrey came to Iowa as early as 1843 and settled in North Fork township. She was one of the earliest settlers in the county. She has a host of friends who join sorrowing children in morning her demise. She was a quiet unassuming women, generous in nature, kindhearted and true, and a devoted mother and wife.

Martha Ashborn was born in Tennessee Jan. 10, 1825 and was the oldest of fourteen children. She was married in 1842 to Tos. Norris in Illinois and came to Iowa the following year and settled on a farm in North Fork township. Mr. Norris died in 1880 and on May 25, 1881, she was again married to Roland Aubrey and moved to Earlville soon after. Mr. Aubrey died Sept. 5, 1905.

She leaves five children to morn her demise, viz: James Norris, of Delhi township; of Logan, Iowa; Mrs. Thos. Hem and Mrs. Ferguson of this city. A brother and sister still survive her, James Ashburn of western Iowa and Mrs. Havens of Albion, Neb.

The funeral will be held from the house tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock.. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. -
