James B. Taylor died at his home in Earlville last Sunday evening. He was born in Richland county, Ohio, March 13, 1830. At the age of fourteen years he went to Michigan City, Indiana, and soon thereafter was apprenticed to learn the trade of harness maker. After serving his time he engaged in the business of manufacturing harness and saddles in that city for seven years and while there, on June 16, 1851 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Earhart, a sister of Mrs. William Cattron.

He is survived by his wife and their three children, Mrs. C. A. Gillian of Cedar Rapids, and William W. Taylor of Earlville.

In 1855 he came to this county and located at what was then called Plum Springs, now the enterprising town of Greeley For three years he clerked in a store at that place and then bought out the interest of his employer and engaged in business for himself. In 1850 he moved to Earlville and formed a co-partnership with the late William Cattron in the mercantile business, afterwards purchasing Mr. Cattrons' interest in the business. He dealt for a number of years in the purchase and sale of grain and livestock, and during his entire residence in Earlville was one of its leading business men.

The funeral services will be held this (Wednesday) afternoon.
