ROGER A. MCINTOSH

Roger A. McIntosh, 77, died Sunday morning, Jul 23, 2000, in his home after a brief illness.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, by the Rev. Ralph Simington. Burial: Oakland Cemetery, with military rites. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; three children, Kay (Vic) Vifian of Garnavillo, Jane (Jerry) Kewley of Hurst, Texas, and Mark (Kim) McIntosh of Atkins; six grandchildren, Shana Vifian of Iowa City, Brian Vifian of St. Cloud, Minn., Tyler Vifian of Garnavillo and Elizabeth Kewley, Lauren Kewley and Breanna Kewley, all of Hurst, Texas; and a brother, Raymond (Gladys) McIntosh of Sun City,A riz. He was preceded in death by a son, Doug, in 1981; three brothers, John, Robert and Allen; a sister, Frances Neal; and his parents.

Roger was born May 23, 1923, in Manchester, Iowa, to John and Louise Mangold McIntosh. He was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Manchester High School in 1942. Roger served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 until 1946. Roger was united in marriage to Betty DeShaw on June 15, 1949, in Hopkinton. Four children were born to this union. Roger started working for Central Iowa Telephone Co. in 1946 and became district manager in 1952. In 1967, it became GTE, where he also served as district manager until 1975. Roger then went to work for Wallace's in Manchester until 1978. From 1982 until 1985, Roger and Betty operated the Pronto Station in Manchester.

He was a past member and president of Rotary and had been a member of the Manchester Fire Department and American Legion.

Roger will be remembered as one who had a great love for his family, friends and his hobby of raising horses.

Military rites will be provided by Manchester American Legion Post 45.

Memorials may be directed to a scholarship fund in memory of Roger or to the Delaware County Hospice.
