Andrew Domeyer was born in Drohatin, Bavaria, Germany, which is situated in todays Czechoslovakia, on September 23, 1848. He is the son of George and Barbara Domeyer. He came to America at age 7 with his family. Then they settled on the farm between New Vienna and Petersburg, Iowa. After marriage to Maria Agnes Scherbring, the Domeyers set up housekeeping on the old homestead where they resided until 1885. Andrew's father willed the farm to him in late 1875 and he farmed there until he sold it and moved to a different farm. Andrew purchased the farm from Marion Cloud for $7,650.00. This is now the William Domeyer place near Petersburg, Iowa. The farm has been in the family for 105 years now. Andrew had purchased about five or ten acres of timber land about three miles east of Colesburg, Iowa. It is believed he used wood for the fireplace and heating.

Andrew was one of the sturdy pioneer settlers of this vicinity and did much toward the improvement and advancement of the community. He was known as one of the foremost agriculturalists and was very successful. To his family he was devoted and was a kind neighbor and friend. he was a consistent member of the Catholic church. Their daughter-in-law, Frances Domeyer, describes Andrew as a story teller, and his grandson, Elmer KOELKER, describes him as the darkest-skinned man in Petersburg, with 6" beard, gregarious, a joke-teller, who slowly went blind.

April 14, 1920, Mr. Andrew Domeyer, age 75, one of our highly respected and pioneer residents passed away at his home last Saturday afternoon about four o'clock, after an tributary to old age. The funeral took place Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock from the family home to Petersburg, Iowa, where a requiem mass was read for the repose of his soul in SS. Peter and Paul Church by Rev. Father Loosbrock, assisted by Rev. Father Reinert of New Vienna, Iowa, as deacon and Rev. Father Stock of St. Joseph's as sub-deacon.
