The Manchester Press, Thurs., Feb. 15, 1900, Manchester, Delaware Co., IA:
"Dropped Dead."
"A report reached this city last evening that Theodore Holmes, an old and highly respected citizen of Honey Creek township fell dead in the street at Millheim last evening. Word was sent here to M. D. Hutson, who was in Manchester at the time. Mr. Holmes was a well known citizen of Delaware county, coming here in 1860 and settling in Honey Creek township. He was born in Seneca county, Ohio, April 24, 1828, being nearly 72 years of age at the time of his death. October 9, 1862, he was united in marriage with Matilda [sic] Hutson.* His many friends here and elsewhere will be shocked and pained to learn of the sudden ending of the many years of life that seemed before him. We have been unable to learn of any of the details of the death, or date of funeral."

*In most other sources, his wife's name is "Malinda" Hutson.
