Mr. Brown was born in Albany, New York, September 17th, 1844, and came to the state of Ohio with his parents when a child. The family resided in Ohio for a number of years, and while a resident of that state enlisted as a soldier on September 24th, 1862. He served for a term of three years, and was mustered out with his company in June 20th, 1865. At the close of the war he returned to his Ohio home and was united in marriage with Miss Juliaetta Traver, on December 31st, 1865. Soon after their marriage they came to Delaware county, and made this place their home for over thirty years. He leaves to mourn his death the aged wife, and son, Harry Brown of Manchester, one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Splitler, eight grand children, and one great grandchild, also one brother, Morgan Brown, of Berg Hill, Ohio; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Sculian of Youngstown, Ohio; and Mellie Hall, of Berg Hill, Ohio.

The death of Mr. Brown removed one of the older residents of Manchester, and one of the men who, when his country's call for volunteers came, responded and gave three years of unstinted service. His death brings sorrow to many friends in this community.
