HOPKINTON, Iowa - Hilda A. Leytem, 85, of Hopkinton, died Monday, June 20, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton, with the Rev. John Kremer officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton, where there will be a parish scripture service at 8 p.m.

She was born on Jan. 5, 1920, in Randolph, Neb., daughter of Nicholas and Katherine (Rogers) Hosch.

She received her education in the rural schools near her home. Hilda, at age 14, left Nebraska and worked for families in the Cascade (Iowa) area.

Hilda A. Hosch and Orville Albert "Luke" Leytem were married on March 28, 1940, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade. They farmed near Temple Hill and then in Castle Grove Township near Monticello. They moved to their farm in South Fork Township, Delaware County, near Hopkinton in 1955. Luke preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1976.

Hilda was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church.

Surviving are four children, Peg (John) Nefzger and Kim (Roger) Hunt, both of Earlville, and John (Janie) Leytem and Jennifer (Don) Felton, both of Hopkinton; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Wilgenbusch, of Monticello, and Florence Kelchen, of Manchester; two brothers, Carl (Pauline) Hosch, of Independence, and Leonard (Deloris) Hosch, of Monticello; and a sister-in-law, Delores Hosch, of Epworth.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Stacy; brothers, Ray, Herb, Clarence, Herman and Fred; and sisters, Dolores and Irene.
