Richard Cline,74, died Saturday morning, Dec. 25, 1999, in Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, United Methodist Church. Interment: Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel; seven children, Diana (Charles) Johnson of Decorah, Linda Cline and Jim (Claire) Cline, both of Cedar Rapids, Nancy (Kenny) Williams, Debra (Ronald) LeClere and Trudy Michels, all of Hopkinton and Peter (Lisa) Cline of Manchester; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael on Nov. 2, 1994; a great-grandson; and his sister, Mary Davis.

Richard J. Cline was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Hopkinton, the son of Thomas and Edith Holmes Cline. Richard graduated from Hopkinton High School and later attended Lenox College. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II. Richard married Mabel Peters on Nov. 21, 1946, in Hopkinton. The couple lived in the Hopkinton and Delhi areas. Richard worked in a program to destroy Barbary and Multi-Floral Rose. He later farmed near Hopkinton and worked at Johnson Feed Mill, Murray Trucking and Dried Whey. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at Zimmerman Lawn Ornaments. Richard was a member of the Hopkinton American Legion and he had been a member of the Hopkinton Fire Department.
