DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Rita Mae Schaul, 91, of Dyersville, formerly of Bankston, died at 2:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Noah Diehm officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville.

Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Reiff Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary recited at 4 p.m., and a wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m.

She was born on Nov. 2, 1921, in Holy Cross, daughter of Nicholas T. and Elizabeth (Pins) Lucas. She received her education in the former Holy Cross Catholic School. She married Joseph A. Schaul on Nov. 10, 1942, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Holy Cross, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Bankston area until their retirement.

Rita enjoyed spending time with the love of her life - her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her home, gardening, crocheting and her many friends. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas-St. Rose Court 350 and a charter member of the Dyersville Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a volunteer for Dyer-Bolsford Doll Museum in Dyersville.

urviving are two children, Ronald (Sharon) Schaul, of Farley, and Laura Ann Schaul and Michael Schultz, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Brad Schaul (Tammy Engelken), Heather Schaul, Jeremy (Stacey) Wernimont, April (James) Williams, Jarrod Wernimont, Jay Schaul (friend, Cheryl Cramer) and Alicia Schaul (friend, Jimmie Roberts); three great grandchildren, Colton Schaul, Katelyn Schaul and Christian Wernimont; a brother, Merlyn Lucas, of Monona; three sister-in-laws, Verna Lucas, of Cedar Rapids, Marie Sigworth, of Marion, and Shirley (Jim) McCoy, of Maquoketa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph A. Schaul, on March 18, 2008; three infant daughters and two infant sons; brothers, Leander (Sally) Lucas, Lawrence (Delores) Lucas, Lawrence's second wife, Dorothy Lucas, Raymond Lucas and Milton Lucas: her sisters, Mercedes (Fred) Kluesner, Cecelia (Tom) Manternach and Tom's second wife, Helen Manternach and Joann (Norman) Link; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Lucas.
