DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Mrs. Marcella M. Recker, 89, of Dyersville, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1914, near Bankston, daughter of William and Anna (Louetsch) Conrad. She was raised and educated in the area, attending St. Clements Catholic School.

She married John L. Recker on Sept. 21, 1936, at St. Clements Catholic Church, Bankston. Together they farmed southwest of Dyersville until their retirement in 1977, at which time they moved to Dyersville.

Marcella enjoyed crocheting and making afghans for her children and grandchildren. She volunteered much of her time to the church, school and Oak Crest Manor. She received the Governor's Award for volunteerism.

Surviving are four daughters, Marian (James) Krogmann, of Winthrop, Lois (Charles) Taylor and Grace (Paul) Rahe, both of Dyersville, and Alice (Ronald) Gudenkauf, of New Vienna; two sons, Phil (Virginia) Recker, of Hopkinton, and Joe Recker (fiancee, Sandy Schattner), of Earlville; a daughter-in-law, Betty Feldman, of Worthington; 34 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; a sister, Frieda Loeffelholz, of Dyersville; and three sisters-in-law, Generose Conrad and Dorothy Gaul, both of Dyersville, and Anna Recker, of Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1985; a son, Eugene, in 1984; two brothers, Irvin and John Conrad; and four sisters, Angie Trinen, Susan Eike, Viola Streif and Helen Klosterman; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorials may be given to St. Francis Xavier Grade School, St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Beckman High School and Hospice.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Oak Crest Manor and Hospice for all their wonderful care and support.
