DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Erma J. Olberding, 78, of Dyersville, died Thursday morning, Jan. 20, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, following a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Jerry Kopacek officiating and Deacon Jerry Jorgensen assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be an American Legion Auxiliary rosary at 4 p.m., and a parish scripture service at 5:30 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 28, 1926, in Dyersville, daughter of John and Cecelia (Grawe) Klostermann.

She married Gerald Olberding on Jan. 27, 1948, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, where they were lifelong members of the parish. Erma was a homemaker who helped Gerald on the farm until retirement in 1988, when they moved to town.

She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, quilting and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, Gerald, two sons, Ken (Lois) and Steve (Karolyn), and a daughter, Joyce (and friend, Joe Gibbs) Meyers, all of Dyersville; nine grandchildren and four great-grandsons; a sister, Bernice Merrick, of Dyersville; seven sisters-in-law, Norma Klostermann, Millie Klostermann, Verna (Jerry) Juergens, Lori Klostermann, Catherine Griffin, Mercedes (Gilbert) Singsank and Eileen Olberding; and six brothers-in-law, Ted Mock, Elmer Tegeler, Ray (Gen), Delbert (Marge), Donald (Darlene) Olberding and Joe Schlichte.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janet, on Oct. 7, 1963; a granddaughter, Stefanie Olberding, on March 21, 1979; five brothers, Irv, Elmer "Lefty," Harold, LeRoy and Vern Klostermann; three sisters, Dorothy Hoeger, Betty Mock and Edna Tegeler; four brothers-in-law, Glen Merrick, Tony Tegeler, Al Hoeger and Bob Olberding; and a sister-in-law, Germaine Schlichte.
