DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Hugo C. Oberbroeckling, 57, of Dyersville, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at home after an extended illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m., and a Catholic Order of Forester rosary at 7 p.m.

He was born on Sept. 18, 1944, in Luxemburg, son of John W. and Catherine (Rausch) Oberbroeckling. He married Kathleen "Kay" Petsche on Sept. 20, 1969, in Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Hugo had been employed for the last 14 years at United Suppliers Inc., Dyersville. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and restoring antiques. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball for many years and was a past member of the Dyersville City Council.

Surviving are his wife, Kay; two sons, Chris J. (Leah) of Oakland, Ill., and Chad A. (Jennifer), of Milwaukee; two grandchildren, Ashtin and Michaela Oberbroeckling, of Oakland; six brothers, Peter (Jane), of Holy Cross, Leo (Carolyn), of Guttenberg, David (Julie), of Davenport, Clyde (Lu Ann), of Holy Cross, John (Shirley), of Menominee, Ill., and Walter (Becky), of Dubuque; three sisters, Clara Harter, of Petersburg, Anna Mae (Robert) Scherbring, of Dyersville, and his twin, Hilda (Clem) De Muth, of Earlville; numerous nieces and nephews; and his father and mother-in-law, Lavern and Norma Petsche, of Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1970; his father in 1971; twin sisters in infancy and a brother-in-law, Henry Harter in 1991.

The family would like to express our loving gratitude to the very special caring staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Bone Marrow Unit, The Finley Hospital, fifth floor, Dubuque Internal Medicine and Hospice of Dubuque. Also a special thank you to everyone at United Suppliers and Heritage Manor for their continuing support.
