Edward C. Beckman, 82, a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, formerly of Dyersville and Manchester, died at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center Wednesday, May 28, 2008, of pneumonia. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Iowa Veterans Home Chapel, Marshalltown, with Craig Nelson officiating. Visitation: one hour before services at the veterans home. Graveside services at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Dyersville, with military honors. Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, is handling arrangements.

Edward Charles Beckman was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Nashua, the son of Charles Gerhard Beckman and Metha (Margaret) Kunkel Beckman. He attended Dyersville High School. Ed entered the Army March 8, 1944, and was honorably discharged May 12, 1946. Ed was employed with Malone Brothers in Manchester. He was a member of Disabled Veterans and American Legion. Edward loved to play golf, shoot pool, fishing and bowling, and was always very active in participating in any of those events.

Ed lived with his sister, Anna Mae and her husband Joseph A. Schuster; and their family, John C. Schuster, Susan M. Schuster and Samuel J. Schuster, in Manchester for 25 years. Since 1991, he had been a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings, Norman M. Morgan, Margaret, who died in infancy, Anna Mae Schuster Limback, Paul B. Beckman, Mark A. Beckman and Charles W. Beckman.

Surviving is a sister, Marian B. Wild, who resides in California; and many nieces and nephews.
