SIMON GANSER OBITUARY
Simon Ganser died at his home in North Fork twp, Delaware Co., Iowa on 24 February 1890.
Mr. Ganser was born 9 February 1823 to Nicholaus Ganser (the Mayor of Mettendorf) and Maria Catherina Achen in Mettendorf Germany.
Simon immigrated to America, arriving on the Pennsylvania in NY Harbor on 26 April 1852. His destination was Buffalo, Erie, NY where he worked on the docks of the Erie Canal.
He married Catharine Grün also of Mettendorf on 25 October 1856 at St. Mary's RC Church in Swormville, Erie, New York. He proudly became a citizen of the United States on 23 October 1858.
In 1869 after 17 years in NY Simon and his family migrated westward to a farm in North Fork twp, Delaware, Iowa.
On 28 February services were conducted at St. Paul's R. C. Church in Worthington, Dubuque, Iowa with Rev. J. B. Zigrang officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Catharine, son Nicholaus Ganser, daughter, Anna Ganser and one grandson, Thomas Barnard Ganser all of Iowa.
