David Chrystal, Wealthy Delaware Farmer, Dies
Manchester, Iowa, Sept. 11 – David Chrystal one of the wealthy and widely know farmers of Hazel Green township, near Manchester, died at his home last week, following an illness of many years , having been a sufferer from Brights’ disease. Funeral services were held from the Golden Congregational church on Sunday afternoon and interment made in the cemetery near that church. Mr. Chrystal was born in Berwick, Scotland, November 10, 1842 and came to America in the fall of 1869 settling on a farm south of this city where he has resided continuously. Although a poor laboring boy when he came to America by careful management and hard work he amassed a large fortune through his farming operations. For twelve years Mr. Chrystal was a member of the board of directors of the Delaware County Mutual Fire and Lighting Insurance association, and held many other positions of trust in the county. In politics he was a republican and always adhered to the faith and tradition of that party. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Frank, Harry, and George. One son, William died in 1883.
