Obituary of Frank E. Wood

Last Thursday our people were called to pay the last sad tribute to the memory of one of the most noble and grand characters that ever lived on this earth, that of Frank E. Wood.
He was born at Ashfield, Mass., Dec. 6, 1833.
In the year 1859 he was united in marriage to Lydia H. Crocker and for several years after, his work was in the store of his elder brother, N. H. Wood. In the following years, four children came to enjoy their happy home, one of whom, Charles, has preceded his father to the better land. Of his fifteen brothers and sisters there are but two left to mourn, Mrs. Chas. Crocker of Sand Springs, and Mrs. Eliza Smith of Avoka, Iowa. The funeral services were very impressive and appropriate. The text of the sermon was from Job 5-26 verse and was a very able one, delivered by our own minister, Rev. O.C. Depuy, who was assisted in the services by Rev. D. S. Staebler, of Monticello, who had known Mr. Wood for several years and the kindly, truthful and beautiful words spoken by him will not soon be forgotten. Words which although very strong in praise, were none too true of him after all. He said that we do not mourn, as we know Father Wood has only stepped over the river of death into God's presence.
He died very quietly and peacefully at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eugene Leavens, on Feb. 27, 1900 at the age of 66 yrs. 2 mo. 21 days.
His wife Mrs. F. E. Wood who was accompanied by their son-in law, Eugene Leavens, arrived here Wednesday, and left for Shell Rock, Saturday.

Note: Buried in Sandsprings Cemetery.
