Dr. James Wright 1817-1883

Dr. James Wright, whose remains were interred at Bloomfield, Iowa, yesterday, was a native of Indiana, and was born in 1817. He went to Delaware County, Iowa, about 1852. Two years after, he was elected clerk of the court, which office he held till 1862, when he was elected Secretary of State, to which office he was re-elected in 1864. In 1872 he was made Agent to the Crow Indians, but did not hold the position long. Last Spring he purchased an interest in the Bloomfield 'Republican' and became its editor. He died of apoploxy.

~note: James Wright is enumerated on the 1860 Federal census, Delaware co. Delhi twp., July 30, 1860. He is age 42 and occupation is Clk District Court. His birthplace is given as Kentucky on this census. In his household are Caroline, age 27; Melville C., age 18; Susan C., age 15; Alonzo B.; age 7; Martha A., age 5; James A., age 3 and Minnie A. age 1 year. Caroline, Melville & Susan were born in Indiana, the other children all in Iowa.
