September, 1939

Mrs. Laura Robb Young, widow of the late Senator Daniel H. Young, long prominent here as a bridge builder and republican leader, passed away at her home on East Fayette Street this (Thursday) morning, Sept. 28, 1939, at eight o'clock, her death terminating a long period of decline. Mrs. Young was in the 85th year of her age. Funeral services will be held at the Platt mortuary on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, the Rev. Donald E. Freeman of the Presbyterian church officiating, and burial will be made in the family lot in Oakland cemetery.

Laura Belle Robb was born at Withamsville, a village not far from Cincinnati, Ohio, May 29, 1855, grew to young womanhood there and on Dec. 29, 1878, at Amelia, Ohio, was united in marriage with Daniel H. Young, at that time engaged in railroad construction in that vicinity. Immediately after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Young came to Manchester, and for ten years they resided on a farm in Milo township. In August, 1888, the family became residents of Manchester, the mother remaining here ever since.

Mrs. Young is the last of a family of ten children, is survived by two children: Sam R. Young of Cincinnati, Ohio who for several weeks has been here giving his mother the most faithful and affectionate care, and Belle, Mrs. Bert Crosier, of this city, also most assiduous and devoted in her services to her parent. A grandson, Dan H. Young, of Cincinnati, also survives. Mrs. Young has been from early life a member of the Baptist church.

Since the death of her husband, who passed away July 27, 1936, Mrs. Young had lived in quiet and almost complete retirement in her little home. She was always a woman whose chief interest centered in her family and her home, and to them she gave all of the devotion of her heart. Her children readily testify to the fidelity of her sacrificial life and to the great debt they owe her memory. Her latter years were clouded by illness endured with patience and fortitude, and those most cherished by her would not call her back to a bed of pain. They are consoled by the thought that she has at last found rest in her Father's house and a joyful reunion with those gone on before.
