Mrs. Thomas (Agnes) Brock

On the afternoon of July 3rd, 1905 at her home in this city, occurred the death of Mrs. Thomas Brock, at the advanced age of 85 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Grandma Brock, as she was familiarly called, had been a great sufferer at times for the past eight years. Her final illness was of about two weeks, duration, and very severe.

Her maiden name was Agnes Gardner, and she was born in Gaston, Lancashire, England April 17, 1820. Here she was converted and became a member of the Episcopal Church. In 1838 she was united in marriage with Robert Currie. To them were born seven children, four daughter and three sons. Of these, R. C. Currie and Mrs. Jennie Goodrich of this place, and John Currie of Butte, Montana still survive.

They came to America in 1840, locating in Dubuque, Iowa, where Mr. Currie died after a number of years. In 1857 Mrs. Currie became the wife of Thomas Brock, the family moving to Colesburg in 1866, which has since been their home. One son blessed this union, F. M. Brock, who resides here. Mr. Brock died in 1873.

The funeral services of Mrs. Brock were held from the Congregational church on Wednesday afternoon, and were largely attended. Rev. V. M. Tyrrell had charge of the services, and preached a very good sermon from the text” Because He Lives, I shall live also”. The floral tributes were many and very beautiful. Interment was made at Oak Hill. A true wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend has gone to her everlasting reward. Peace to her memory.
