Winifred M. Martin, 88, of Manchester, died Wednesday, afternoon, September 24, 2003 at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, Iowa, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003, at the Gospel Hall, Manchester, with Robert Orr officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Masonville, Iowa. Winifred was born March 29, 1915, in Coffins Grove Township, Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Fred C. and Lillian A. (Reed) Kimball. She attended school in Manchester. On March 28, 1928, at the age of 13, Winifred trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. On October 3, 1936, Winifred was united in marriage to John Allen Martin, Sr. in Waterloo, Iowa. The couple moved to Ottumwa, Iowa and then in 1946 moved back to the Manchester area, settling in Coffins Grove Township. In 1976, the couple moved to their home on Doctor Street in Manchester. John died June 18, 1977. Winifred moved to the Good Neighbor Home in February of 2001. Winifred attended the Gospel Hall in Manchester. She was a true homemaker and found joy raising her family. Winifred’s family includes four daughters and their husbands: Sue Ellen and Kenneth Gentz and Linda and Garey Entsminger, all of Manchester, Iowa, Merry Beth and Richard Baker of Rockford, Illinois, and Julie Anne and Allan Kluiter of Clarksville, Iowa; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Lighty of Clarence, New York; two daughters-in-law, Fran Martin and Marlene Ryan, both of Manchester, and one sister-in-law, Jean Watson of Pasco, Washington. Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred C. and Lillian A. Kimball; her husband, John Allen Martin, Sr.; two sons, John Allen Martin, Jr. and Gerald Curtis Martin; two great-grandchildren, Stephanie Martin and Andrew Gentz; and four brothers, Delbert, Robert, Roy and Walter Kimball.
