David J. Kauffman is thankful the sand did not cover him any deeper when the bank caved in on him the other day. Otherwise, he might not be here to tell the story. He was wedged in so tightly he was unable to extricate himself. His calls for help brought J. S. Merten and Fred Keck to the scene and both plied their shovels pretty lively for a while. Mr. Kauffman was quite lame afterwards, but otherwise none the worse for his experience.
