DELAWARE COUNTY – Hopkinton. – This village, charming for its location in a burr oak opening on the south fork of the Maquoketa, is slowly progressing. Several dwelling-houses have been erected lately; Messrs. Holmes & Nichols are about starting a three story flouring mill; and the Bowen Collegiate Institute, has just got under way. It opened on the first instant under very favorable auspices. The attendance was large on the first day, at which time we happened to be in that place.

The school is under the charge of Rev. Jerome Allen, A. M., late of Dubuque. He is assisted by Mr. Orman Taylor, Miss Marion H. Roberts and Miss Lucy A. Cooley. The building in which the school is held, is a brick structure, forty by sixty feet, and well arranged for educational purposes.

Hopkinton is a lovely, healthy and quiet place – just such a sylvan retreat as the student would be likely to seek.

Hopkinton is the residence of our young friend, W. A. Roberts, Esq., who has just been nominated by the Republicans for the office of County Superintendent of Public Instruction. He is very popular, and we predict will have the largest majority of any man on that ticket.

One of the best springs in Delaware county is on the farm and near the hotel of Leroy Jackson. A dairy-house has been built over it. Mr. Jackson was attracted thither from Dubuque, several years ago, by that beautiful spring.
