Warren Lawman Hintz was born in Manchester on 30 January 1913. His father was Louis Hintz, who was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad as a telegrapher. His mother was Frances Lawman Hintz, a homemaker. The families of both of his parents resided in the Manchester area since the 1870's.
My father was known as "Lawman" during the years he lived in Manchester. He was either born in the house at 104 West Howard or moved there within a year or two. His sister Mary Louise Hintz (later, Darton) was born there in 1921.
Lawman Hintz graduated from Manchester High School in 1931. He attended what is now Iowa State University for three years. He moved to Des Moines, where he lived and worked until his Army National Guard unit was activated in 1940.
From 1940 until 1965 he served on active duty with the U. S. Army, retiring as a lieutenant colonel of artillery in 1965. He was engaged in combat operations on Guam and Iwo Jima in World War II, and in Korea for over a year during the Korean War.
He married Elinor Ruth Eby of Des Moines in 1943. His son, Steven Hintz, was born in 1947.
After retiring from active military service, Hintz moved to San Diego. He lived there until 2000 when he moved to Ventura. He died in 2001.
