HERVEY DALE DYE was born March l8, l83l, in Monroe County, Ohio, near Sisterville, West Virginia; and passed to his reward April 22, l92l, aged 90 years, l month and four days. His father died when he was about eight years old and he was raised by his uncle, DAVID DYE.

He was married April 2l, l852, to HANNAH KAY and moved to Decatur County, Iowa, in l855; about seventeen years ago moved to Humeston. To MR. and MRS. DYE were born eight children: MRS. LUELLA WINLAND, MRS. OLIVE HUTCHINSON, MRS. LETTIE HAMILTON, each of Humeston, CHARLES CLINTON, of Decatur County, with also a residence in Florida; MRS. EVA SAMPSON, of Sulphur Springs, Arkansas; MRS. CORA CAMPBELL, of Evanston, Ill.; MRS. MELLIE BEAVERS, of Minneapolis, Minn.; and one son who died when nine years old.

The wife died in December, l906; most of the time since l9l6 he has made his home with his eldest daughter, MRS. J.W. WINLAND. He has been gradually failing in health all winter and was not out of the house since November, but was able to be about the house and go to the table for his meals until Monday before his death.

Grandpa DYE was converted when about eighteen years of age and joined the Baptist church at Long Reach, West Virginia; he helped organize the Highland Baptist church of which he remained a member forty-six years when his membership was transferred to the Baptist Church at Humeston.

He was always a great lover of his church and always attended all services. It was a great grief to him when he could no longer attend the prayer meetings and Sunday School.

He leaves the seven children, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; also a half-sister, MRS. CYNTHIA SHRIVER, of Allerton. The grandchildren are MRS. DEVIES, of Des Moines; LESTER WINLAND, of Monita, Calif.; CLYDE C. HUTCHINSON, of Humeston; MRS. JOHN WALKER, of Enid, Oklahoma; CATHERINE and JOSEPH CAMPBELL, of Evanston, Ill. The great grandchildren living in Humeston are PORTIA and WAYNE HUTCHINSON.

This venerable pioneer was known by many and respected by all; his example has been good and he leaves an honored name to his descendants. He was blessed with many years in which he saw great things come to pass. Now he has gone to his well-earned rest. May his life be an example for us all.

All of the children were here for the funeral.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 at the Baptist Church, conducted by the Pastor, Rev. U.G. Miller, assisted by Orr Campbell, a former Pastor, who spoke touchingly of the life led by the pioneers of a half century or more ago. Rev. Miller used as the text for his sermon the first verse of Revelations. A double quartet sang "Nearer, My God, to Thee," "All is Well With My Soul," and "Jesus is Mine." A floral piece of ripened wheat enclosed by a sickle of flowers surrounded the head of the casket. The church was filled with relatives and friends come to pay their last tribute to their old neighbor. Interment was made in the Humeston Cemetery.
