MERT, the two year old son of MR. and MRS. A.E. BULLARD, of Lamoni, was drowned just shortly before six o'clock Thursday evening of last week when the little fellow fell into an excavation filled with water at the BULLARD home.

The father, who had attended a ball game that afternoon, returned home about 6:30 and missed the child. A search disclosed the little body in a pit that had been dug for a cess pool and which had filled with water as a result of the recent rains. The child was not entirely dead at the time and every effort was made to revive him but physicians were unable to do so. The excavation for the pool had been started before the recent big storm, but work had been suspended awaiting better working conditions. About six feet of water stood in the pit. The pit had been dug in preparation for the building of a cess pool.

The child's father is employed at Graceland College. The grief stricken parents certainly have the sympathy of all.
