The subject of this sketch, CYRUS WEAVER, was born in Knox County, Ohio, March l6th, l846, and departed this life after a brief illness at the home of his daughter, MRS. HARRY MARVIN, Leon, Iowa, September 27th, l920, at the age of seventy-four years, six months and eleven days. He was united in marriage to MISS JANE MEADOWS, November 8th, l862. This union was blessed with six children, three sons and three daughters. Two of the children, a son and a daughter, died in infancy.

MR. WEAVER and family came to Decatur County in the early seventies, where he continued to reside for a number of years. Some years ago he was converted to Christ and united with the Christian Advent Church in which faith he died. He was a good man, earnest and devout, honorable in all his dealings with his fellowmen, honored and respected by all who knew him. He was a veteran of the Civil War and served his country faithfully and well during the dark days of the rebellion. He was an honored member of the Grand Army of the Republic.

He and his family moved from Leon to Des Moines where he was for a number of years, a trusted employee of the State Service for a time at the Capitol Building, and for the past six or eight years at the Historical Building. He was a general favorite with his associates as shown by their kindly remembrances to the bereaved children in words of condolence and gifts of beautiful flowers brought to them by a friend and fellow associate, MR. GEORGE WEINEY, of Des Moines.

On account of the failing health of his wife, they moved for a time to Cheyenne, Wyoming. On July l6th, l906, the loving wife and mother departed this life to be at home with God. The body was brought back to Leon and tenderly laid to rest in the Leon Cemetery. For some time past the deceased had been in declining health and came to make his home with his daughter, MRS. HARRY MARVIN. During his illness he received every kindness that loving hearts and kind hands could bestow. Death came as a sweet release, freeing the spirit from its tenement of clay that it might go home to be with God who gave it.

He was a loving husband, an affectionate father, an honored, upright citizen, a good neighbor and kind friend. He leaves to mourn his departure, the loving children, as follows: Sons, ELMER and LAFE WEAVER, of Cheyenne, Whoming; daughters, MRS. NANNIE SALES, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and MRS. HARRY MARVIN, of Leon; sisters, MRS. VICTORIA VANDERPOOL, of Cheyenne, Wyoming and MELVINA MEADOWS, of Berwick, Ill.; other near relatives, fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral serivces were held at the home of his daughter, MRS. HARRY MARVIN, Thursday afternoon, Sept. 30, l920, at 2 p.m., conducted by P.H. Green. Favorite hymns were sung. Mrs. Bert Woodard was pianist. The pall bearers were members of the G.A.R.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Interment was by the side of his wife in Leon Cemetery.
