Lawrence Bradford Young was born August 30, 1908 at Pleasanton, Iowa to Lawrence and Lucy (Barr) Young. He died at Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on March 3, 1986 at the ae of 77.

He served with the 36th Naval Construction Battalion in the South Pacific during World War II. Prior to and following his naval service Bradford was an inspector for the Iowa State Commerce Commission for twenty years.

He was married to Majorie Crai on June 15, 1946.

Following his retiremet from the State Commerce Commission, he pursued his interest in sports and farming, raising registered Hereford cattle. He was a member of Loving Chapel United Methodist church, Cowl-Scott American Legion Post #80, Leon and Grand River Lodge #78 AF & AM of Leon, Iowa.

His family consists of his wife Marjorie Young; mother in law Estella Craig; sister in law, Gretchen Hancock of Mesa, Arizona; two nieces: Margaret Clark of Clifton, Colorado and Josephine Klendshoj of Mesa, Arizona; two nephews: Ronald McDowell of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania and Bobbie McDowell of Villisca, Iowa; two great nephews: Joe Bradford Keshlear of Columbia, South Carolina and Bill Keshlear of Austin, Texas; a great niece Beth McDowell Cowden of Blue Springs, Missouri; and two great great nieces: Shannon Keith and Pauline Cowden of Blue Springs, Missouri.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 6, 1986, 9:30 a.m. at the Slade & Duerr Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Rev. Dick Sopeight officiating. Interment was in Keokuk National Military Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.
