Thursday, October 2, l9l9

JAMES ALLEN BASS was born at Marshall, Ohio, March 4th, l839, and departed from this life September l0, l9l9, being 80 years, 6 months and l6 days old. He left Ohio with his parents, who moved to Indiana where he was raised to manhood, then moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where he met MISS SUSAN SCOTT. They were united in marriage. To this union were born nine children: MRS. IDA B. MARTIN, of Golden, Colorado; MRS. MAY JODAN, of Los Angeles, Calif.; JOHN, ANN, WILL and VIOLET SMITH, of this city, and MRS. LUCY HOLLINGSHEAD, JENNIE LEWIS, MARY ELIZABETH and his wife, who have preceded him.

MR. BASS was a member of the United Brethren Church for years and at the last expressed himself as being prepared to die. The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased in Davis City, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Severide, of the Church of Christ. Songs were sung by a quartet composed of Miss Helen Wailes, Sister Beatrice McClaren, Sister W.J. Campbell and Thoseph Tharp. Interment was in the old Cemetery, by the side of his wife in Davis City, Iowa.

A neighbor and friend has passed beyond the portals and has gone to his reward. "Oh! how sweet it will be in that beautiful land, so free from all sorrow and pain; with songs on our lips and with harps in our hands, to meet one another again."

JOSEPH THARP
