Thursday, August 2l, l9l9MRS. MATTIE J. PICKETT GARDNER, an aged and highly esteemed resident of this city, passed away shortly after the noon hour, August l2th, at her home at 2l6 Madison Street.
She had been in failing health ever since a stroke of paralysis a year or so ago.
Deceased was born in l838 and was a native of Illinois. When a child, she moved with her parents to Decatur County, Iowa, where she was married and where she lived until l894, when she came to Napa and located in Coombsville. Here in l904, her husband was taken by death. In l9ll, she sold the ranch and came to Napa to live.
Although loyal to her adopted state she never forgot her allegiance to Iowa. She was ever interested in all the affairs of the state and especially in Decatur County and Leon. At the time of her death she was a subscriber to the Journal and read it eagerly as a letter from home.
MRS. EMMA CHICK, of Grand River, is a foster-daughter of MRS. GARDNER. Several nieces and nephews survive, many of whom live in the east. MRS. GARDNER was a devout and life-long member of the Christian Church. The funeral will be held from the G.G. Pinkham Chapel at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon.
