Kent Kurtis Kirkpatrick Obituary
Kent Kurtis Kirkpatrick, age 76, of Lamoni, Iowa, the son of Albert Rice and Arlene (Moeller) Kirkpatrick, was born June 11, 1944, at Walcott, Iowa. He died at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, May 21, 2021.
Kent attended country school in Grand River, Iowa and graduated from Grand Valley High School in 1962. He then did local trucking. From July 1965, until July 1967, Kent served in the United States Army. On May 3, 1969, he married Connie Carleen Elliott at the Lamoni United Methodist Church in Lamoni, Iowa. They started out living in the country west of Lamoni, but after ten years, they built a house and moved into the city limits. They were blessed with two daughters, Kandi and Kim.
In October of 1969, Kent started a 24-year job as an over the road trucker, driving truck for Bill Wilcoxson, hauling livestock, fertilizer and grain. Then he drove for Corbe Anderson and hauled for Atlantic Carriers, Heartland Express, and Vermeer Corporation, and finally Dave Hamaker, hauling anything that would fit in a hopper bottom grain trailer, until his retirement in 2014. Kent loved to read, especially westerns and military books. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, and was a former Lamoni volunteer fireman.
Preceding him in death were his parents; infant brother, Shawn Kirkpatrick; and his half siblings, Harold Kirkpatrick, Lois Barber, Albert Clair Kirkpatrick, Reba Lamb and their spouses and a brother-in-law, Darrel Kelso. Survivors include his wife, Connie Kirkpatrick of Lamoni, Iowa; children, Kandi and Tony Snethen of Lamoni and Kim and Mark Rodgers of Phoenix, Arizona and; five grandchildren, Kurtis McKnabb and wife, Selene, Morgan McKnabb, Brianna Rodgers, Jayson Rodgers, and Logan Snethen; step-grandchildren Jimmy Snethen and Casey Snethen; and four step-great grandchildren; siblings, Loudean & Marilyn Kirkpatrick of Osceola, Iowa, Kenlyn Kelso of Osceola, Leann Duff of Murray, Iowa, Dellane & Jerry Vanderflught of Grand River, Iowa, and Clay & Jill Kirkpatrick of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
No services will be held at this time, but he will be laid to rest in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, Iowa at a later date. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lamoni Fire Department, in care of City Hall, Lamoni, Iowa, 50140.
