Harlan Scott Moats, the youngest son of Sinnett and Mary Jane [Cornell] Moats, was born on February 15, 1878, In Ritchie County, West Virginia.

He died July 31, 1972, at Westview Acres Nursing Home at Leon, Iowa.

He grew to young manhood in West Virginia. It was there he met Chloe Alice Enoch, and they were united In marriage in July 1900 at Washburn, W.V. To this union were born four children: De1phia, Plume, Ruby, and Brady.

In 1914 the family moved to Decatur County, Iowa, where he operated a shoe repair shop for 12 years in Lamoni. He enjoyed farming and gardening as long as his health permitted and raised a fine garden the year of his 92nd birthday.

A fall on ice impaired his health and he never fully recovered. He was cared for in the home by his daughter Delphia, until in March of this year when he was taken to the Decatur County Hospital and late transferred to the Westview Acre Nursing Home for extended care.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Chloe; brothers and sisters, daughter Ruby, and son Brady.

Surviving are two daughters, Delphia of the home, and Pluma (Mrs. Dewey Jamison) of Scio, Ore.; two grandsons, Olen Jamison of Portland, Ore. and LeRoy Jamison of Salem, Ore.: two great-grandchildren, John and Susan Jamison of Portland, Ore.

Graveside services were held on August 2 at Rose Hill Cemetery. Archie Rew and Orville Dahlem conducted the service.
