John Brierley, son of Ralph W. Stevenson and Elizabeth Rollett Stevenson was born Dec. 5, 1884, in Illinois and died at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon at the age of 91 years, 17 days.

He was baptized into the RLDS church and held the office of Priest. On January 2, 1907, he was married to Grace Amy Lambert, and to this union, 4 children were born. His wife Grace died in 1925.

In 1933, he moved to a farm east of Carthage, Ill. In 1953, he purchased a farm east of Lamoni and moved there. He married Martha [McGinness] Milby on Oct. 12, 1953. She died in 1954.

He married Gertrude [McNelly] Graham of Davis City in 1961. In 1964 they retired and moved to Leon. Because of failing health, they became residents of Leon Care Center about a year ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest sister, Carrie Grotts.

Survivors are his wife, Gertrude; son Hale W. Stevenson of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughters, Vesta Crown of Blair, Neb., Veryl Condit of Humeston, and Wanita Hawkin of Santa Rosa, Calif.; brothers Pearl of [illegible], Charlie of Lamoni, David of Carthage, Ill.; sisters May Thomas of Lamoni, Flossie Brown of Carthage, Ill., grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.

Services were held on Dec. 26 from the Lamoni RLDS Church under the direction of the Lamoni Funeral Home. Officiating were Elders Jerry Runkle and Willard Moon. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Stevenson, Chariton; and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Eliason, Leon.
