Decatur County Journal
Thursday, February l5, l9l7

GERALD WILLIAM FIERCE was born November 26, l896, and died February 8, l9l7. His age was 20 years, 2 months and l3 days. He was born and lived all his life on the place where his parents now reside. His health always was very good and he never experienced any serious sickness until four years ago this month when he was taken down with Plural pneumonia. He arose from that affliction and remained in good health until this last sickness. He battled with the disease courageously and even when told that he could not live did his part bravely to give life all possible chance to survive. He became calm toward the end, and reclined in quiet resignation to death which came at 6:l0 a.m. He was conscious to the last.

All was done that skilled physicians and expert nursing could do and always he was surrounded by loved ones and friends who did all they could for him.

At the age of fourteen he professed conversion and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, and while of late years he seemed to go astray from the Christian life, yet at the last he did regain faith and trust in Christ as his Savior, and said he was ready to go. He had no fear of death. He asked each one present to meet him in Heaven, and bade them all good-bye. He also asked those present to say good-bye to all his friends for him.

On May the 2lst, l9l5, he was graduated from high school. He was bright and alert and was leader among the young people.

He leaves to mourn his death the father and mother, his two sisters, HELENE and LUCILLE, together with many relatives and friends. He has gone to Him that knows the hearts of men and that becomes the Savior of all that will put their trust in Him.
