Latta – At New Buda, Iowa, March 19, 1896, of a cancer. Mrs. Rachel Latta (Jinkins), mother of Prof. John L. Latta. She was born August 25, 1824, in Ohio County, Indiana. At the age of five she was deprived of father, and of mother at the age of ten. She removed to Pennsylvania and made her home with her uncle, Mr. Bartlett, a Presbyterian minister. She was a firm believer in the Presbyterian faith, and united with the church in early life. March 19, 1846, she was married to Calvin Latta, and in 1847 removed to Muscatine County, Iowa. In 1855 removed to Akron, Harrison Co., Missouri. August 11, 1866 located on the present home.
Mr. Calvin Latta died February 4, 1892.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Latta, five of them are still living and were all in attendance at the funeral. Mrs. Latta’s earthly pilgrimage was 71 years, 6 months, and 24 days, and her departure was on her fiftieth marriage anniversary.
Funeral sermon at the residence by Elder B.M. Elvin from let John ___. The body was laid by the side of her husband in the Davis City cemetery.
