Leonard LaVerne Walden was born November 20, 1921, at Lamoni, Iowa, and died March 14, 1981, at Branson, Mo. He was the oldest child of Arthur and Florence Poff Walden.

He was raised in Lamoni and graduated from school there. Shortly after graduation he entered the service and served during World War II and the Korean War.

He retired from the army after 23 years of service and then worked for McDonald Douglas Corp in Germany for a number of years. After his retirement from Germany, he and his wife Irmgard, moved to Forsyth, Mo, in 1977. In spite of continuing ill health, he enjoyed his retirement years at Forsyth.

Leonard was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Walden. He is survived by his wife, Irmgard, of the home, daughter, Bette Hardwick, Hillsboro, N.C., son Michael Walden, Cary, N.C., stepson, Rainer Schenke, Hannover, Germany.

Also, surviving are his brother, Everett Walden, Winona, MN., sister, Yvonne Hynden, Lamoni, Ia., father and stepmother, Arthur and Pearl Walden, Lamoni, Ia., grandson, Morgan Hardwick of North Carolina, and 4 grandchildren in Germany; 1 brother-in-law, 1 sister-in-law, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and many neighbors and friends who also shall miss him.

Funeral services were held at Forsyth, Mo. March 18, 1981, with Elder Robert B. Hynden in charge. Burial was at the Branson, Mo. cemetery.
