JUSTUS GEORGE was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania, in l84l, and died August 24, l9l6, at the age of 74 years, ll months and l5 days. He was one of thirteen children who all grew to manhood and womanhood.

He moved with his parents to Venango County, Pennsylvania, in l853. When sixteen years of age he moved to Pallensburg, Penn. There he learned to work at the iron moulders trade, at which he worked until the call came for volunteers for the war of l86l-65. He left home August 26, l86l, and enlisted at Camp Orr, Kittaning, Penn. He went with his company to Harrisburg then on to Washington and Yorktown. He was under fire at Williamsburg and was in the battle of Fair Oaks from which he carried a bullet in his right leg. He was in the "On to Richmond" move and was afterwards sent on detached duty to Pittsburg, Penn. He received an honorable discharge as a member of Company A. l03rd regiment of the Pennsylvania volunteers. He came west and located in Clark County, Mo., in the winter of l864.

On January 3rd, l866, at Ottumwa, Iowa, he was united in marriage to SARAH JANE DAUGHERTY. To this union were born three children, ALFRED D., of Jurbidge, Nevada; A. GURLEY, of Leon, Iowa, and one son who died in infancy. He was of that sturdy stock of people of which Pennsylvania boasts. He was of German descent.

Being raised in a Christian home he never faltered in making a stand for what was just and right. He united with the Presbyterian Church at Ottumwa, Iowa, at the time of the Moody and Sankey meetings. Besides two children and one grandchild, he leaves two brothers and five sisters and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Marsolf assisted by Rev. Ronk, of the Brethren Church. The text was taken from II Timothy, verses 7 and 8. And thus another veteran is mustered out.
