David F. Snethen, who died at Pleasanton, Iowa, October 2, 1908, was the son of John and Christina Jordan Snethen. He was born in Bradford, Stark county, Illinois, February 15, 1866, and moved with his parents to the neighborhood of Davis City in 1876. He was married to Isabelle Smith, July 17,1889, and to this union were born six children: Leo Everett, Austa May, who died in infancy, Lula Jeanette, Ethel Viola, Charles David and James Ivan. A mother, four brothers, two sisters, two half-sisters survive him. Mr. Snethen had been engaged in the lumber business in Pleasanton for a number of years, closing out his interests here in the spring of 1907, moving with his family to Artesia, N. M. In the spring of 1908 he came to St. Joe, Mo. Three weeks before his death he returned to Pleasanton and entered into negotiations for once more entering into active business life here, when his plans were arrested by the sickness which caused his death. The funeral took place Sunday, October 4th, Elder Heman C. Smith, of Lamoni, preaching the sermon, assisted by Elder Moroni Traxler of the same place. The concourse which followed his remains to their last resting place in Hamilton cemetery north of Pleasanton was of unprecedented magnitude for this region of this country, thus bearing eloquent testimony to the high and wide esteem in which he was held throughout the community. He was a respected member of the Masonic, I. O. O. F. and M. W. A. lodges, who had charge of the services at the grave. Mr. Snethen possessed many sterling qualities of mind and heart and his social traits ever made him a welcome member of gatherings for social purposes, and in his business relations enjoyed the perfect confidence of those with whom he had dealings. His mourning family have the deepest sympathy of the community in the hour of their sorrow and distress.
