Frank Snethen, sixth child of eleven born to James Doyle and Mary Prudence (Flanagan) Snethen, was born January 21, 1910 in Clay Township of Harrison County, Missouri. He passed away on September 17, 1996 at the Bedford Manor Nursing Home in Bedford, Iowa after a long illness at the age of 86 years 7 months and 27 days.

Frank spent his early years in the farm communities of southern Iowa and northern Missouri. Along with farming he operated his own truck, hauling corn and coal. He also bought and hauled livestock and other commodities. He had Snethen Commission Firm, buying cattle for the Lamoni Packing Plant. In 1945 he and his brother, Clarence, bought the Lamoni Sale Barn. They sold it in July of 1965. Frank was a member of Lamoni Farms, Inc.

He joined the United States Army on April 24, 1942 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and spent time in Germany, France, and Luxemburg. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and at the Romagna Bridge, where the military crossed into Germany. During his service Frank was awarded the American Service Medal, a Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged honorably on October 25, 1945.
