Decatur County Journal
Thursday, April 20, l9l6

Last Tuesday, April llth, death visited the
home of RICHARD MEEK, of
Eden Prairie, and called away his wife, MARY
A. MEEK, who is 80 years, l
month and l2 days of age. MRS. MEEK had been
sick and bedfast since
November, suffering and always thought of
others before herself. She
often expressed a desire to depart from this
life.

MARY A. KEMP was born at Washington, Pa.,
February 28, l836. She moved
with her parents to Cincinnati when a child
and from there to Decatur
County, Iowa, when a young lady. She was
married to RICHARD MEEK in
July, l860. To them were born five children;
MELVIN, of Rock Island,
Tex; GEORGE and DAVID of this county;
PHILILP, of Olympia, Wash., and
CARRIE LANEY, of Covington, Ind. These with
her husband, all survive
her.

She united with the M.E. Church when a young
woman and after her
marriage united with the Eden Prairie Church
of Christ. She continued
faithful to the Lord, rendering much service
with her husband, as active
members of the church, and leading all their
children into the faith of
Jesus. MRS. MEEK lived and died in the Lord
and rests from her labors
of life. We sorrow, but not as those who
have no hope.

The funeral services were held April l3, at
the Eden Prairie Chapel
where she had so often worshipped. Wm. J.
Campbell, of Davis City, gave
an appropriate talk on the resurrection. The
body was interred in the
cemetery nearby. Her husband, though not
very well, was able to attend
the funeral. The children, except MELVIN and
PHILIP were present, also
her brother ANDREW KEMP, of Des Moines and
her sister, MRS. BLAIR, of
Van Wert. These, with a large number of
sorrowing friends and
relatives, followed the body to the cemetery
where they laid it in its
last earthly resting place.
