HETTIE IVA ROSS was born May 27, 1881, and died August 17, 1901, at the home of her parents, JOHN and HANNAH ROSS, near Elk Chapel, in this county. The funeral sermon was delivered in Elk Chapel Sunday at 2 o'clock p.m., by Rev. W.E. Harvey from John 14:1-2. She was laid at rest in the [Elk] Cemetery by the side of her sister, MERTIE, to await the morning of the resurrection. A large procession of sorrowing relatives and friends followed the remains to their last resting place.
Her parents, three sisters and four brothers are left to mourn their loss, all of whom were present at her bedside to administer everything that loving hands could do. IVA was a model girl in the community. She was always found in her Sabbath School class and served as organist as long as her health permitted. IVA was a believer in Christ, and told her friends she was trusting in the Lord and had nothing to fear as she passed through the dark shadow of the valley of death. Five minutes before the breath left her body, in a feeble voice she sang her favorite hymn, "Lord I'm Coming Home." The same hymn was sung at her grave by the choir.
