Decatur County Journal

W.A. MCCORNICK, of near Pleasanton, committed
suicide last Saturday
evening by hanging. The body was found
hanging in the barn within a few
minutes after death had occurred by the
mother of the deceased. Dr.
Macy was summoned from Pleasanton but nothing
could be done.

MR. MCCORMICK accompanied by his wife had
been in Pleasanton during the
afternoon trading and had seemed in an
unusually cheerful mood. They
returned home that evening reaching there
about six o'clock. Shortly
after reaching home, MR. MCCORMICK went to
the barn and a short time
later his mother found him hanging dead.
Evidently he had climbed upon
the manger and tied a hitch rein around a
timber overhead and then about
his neck and jumped off. Death had seemingly
resulted speedily.

He leaves a wife and two sons and his father
and mother to mourn his
tragic death. He resided on the farm of his
parents and worked the
place living with his family in one of two
houses on the place. He was
about forty-five years of age. The funeral
was held Sunday at the
Pleasanton L.D.S. Church, the services being
conducted by Rev. Harrison
Hamilton, of Leon.
