EVA N., daughter of MR. and MRS. A.W. BRIGHT, was born at Davis City,
Iowa, December l7, l888, and died at the home of her parents in Leon,
Iowa, November 24, l907, aged l8 years, ll months and 7 days.
Her entire life was spent in and around Leon. In early childhood, when
perhaps about 4 or 5 years of age, she showed a remarkable inclination
towards a religious life, and it is the opinion of her parents that she
never knew a time when she did not love Jesus. In a revival meeting
held in the bounds of the Decatur City circuit, when she was about l2
years of age, she made a public confession of Christ. Three or four
years later she united with the Christian Church of Leon, of which she
was a member at the time of her death.
February 3, l907, she was united in marriage to MR. G.I. JENNINGS, of
Leon, Iowa. This happy union that had so much promise for the young
couple was soon shadowed. Some months before the marriage she had
contracted a severe cold. It rapidly developed into tuberculosis. The
best skill of the physicians and the tenderest ministry of her loved
ones were alike unavailing. Like a tender plant she faded before the
blighting disease. She bore her suffering with great patience and
though anxious to get well, she became entirely resigned to her fate,
saying to her loved ones that it was well with her soul. She was a good
girl, the comfort and stay of her parents, the joy and solace of her
husband's heart. Her going seems all too soon, but after a while we
shall know and understand.
Her parents, a half-brother, of West Virginia, and a foster brother,
ARTHUR, and the heartbroken husband are left to mourn her early
departure. Besides these, a large number of relatives, faithful
associates and friends join in this deep sorrow and tenderest sympathy
for the bereaved.
The funeral was at 2:30 o'clock Monday, and was held from the Christian
Church, Rev. J.L. Boyd, Pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church,
preaching the sermon, from the text; "Be not afraid, only believe." Mark
5:36. Rev. Ruppert, of the Advent Christian Church, assisted in the
services. A large congregation was in attendance. Burial was in the
Leon Cemetery.
