Loris Arthur Baker was born December 22, 1905, near Farragut in Fremont County, Iowa. He passed away February 9, 1959, in Skiff Memorial Hospital, Newton, Iowa, after a two-year illness at the age of 53 years, one month and 16 days.

The youngest child of the late Thomas R. and Julia Gravatt Baker. Loris came to Decatur county with his parents when quite young. He resided in Decatur county until 1942 when he moved to Newton, Iowa, where he had since made his home. He was a welder by trade and had been an employee of the Parsons Company at Newton the past 17 years. Loris was converted and baptised at an early age at the Bethel Baptist Church, south of Leon.

On January 5, 1929, at Leon Iowa, he was united in marriage to Florence Toney of Grand River, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Richard Loris and Joan Etta. Surviving besides his wife Florence who tenderly cared for him through his two years of illness, son, Richard and daughter, Mrs. Joseph Henderson; daughter-in-law Leota Mae; son-in-law Joseph Henderson; three grandchildren, Ronald, Joseph and John Charles Baker, aged 4 and 3, and Jan Denise Henderson, aged 4; also three brothers, Walter of Fort Pierce, Fla., Elva and Luther of Leon; two sisters, Mrs. Virgil (Ottie) Robison and Mrs. Ray (Cecil) Epperly, both of Leon, Iowa and their respective wives and husband; nieces, nephews, friends and also his father-in-law, Lawrence C. Toney, of Grand River, Iowa; six brothers-in-law, and six sisters-in-law

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Ethel Dobson; also three small sons by a previous marriage.

Funeral services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home at 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 11, and burial was in the Leon cemetery.
