JOHN BRYANT

John [Edward} Bryant was born in Chuer-Laboura, England, December 31st, 1943, [to Charles and Hannah) died at Grand River, Iowa December 14th, 1916, aged 73 years.

On March 31st, 1864, he was married at Cluer[Clewer]-Wedmore, England, to Betsy Binning. In the course of years twelve children were born of this union, nine of whom [survive], three [eight] sons and one daughter, survive him.

In 1866 they immigrated to America and settled in Dubuque county [Iowa] where they lived until 1882, when they settled in Decatur county [Iowa], near Grand River, where they have since resided.

Brother Bryant united with the Baptist church in England when a youth of seventeen, and joined the Methodist church on coming to America. Throughout sixty-six years he was constantly held up the banner of the cross, and until his last moments had the church which he loved, on his mind

Those who are left to mourn the loss of husband, father, and grandfather can comfort their hearts with the thought that a little while was held in high esteem by the multitude of neighbors and friends who associated with him throughout the days agone; and, the added assurance that he has left also a heritage of character more precious than jewels, for that heritage has left its impress on neighbors and friends.

His one heart burden was that his children might be garnered into the Kingdom, that at the final accounting there might be a reunited family circle.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Grand River [Iowa] on Saturday, Dec. 16th [1916] conducted by the pastor, Rev. Russell, and a large number of sorrowing friends were in attendance.
