Larry’s father worked construction so the family moved around often. Larry attended 66 schools in Iowa for his early education. He attended Leon High School all four years and graduated in 1960. It was in Leon he met his future wife, Martha Ann Elsberry. He and Marty were married on May 29, 1960, in Leon. They were blessed with two sons, Rodney and Kenneth, and lived in Leon.

His first church was in Hatfield, Missouri. While there he served as the Christ Ambassador representative for the Northwest Missouri District for eight to ten years. In order to have more free time to dedicate to the church, he learned the electrical trade. He led the Davis City Assembly of God Church before taking the Decatur Assembly of God Church. He started a business with Gene Warren, O&W Electrical. Later he operated his own electrical business before working for Baker Electric. He became a retired electrician at age 65, but was still active in his ministry in the Decatur Assembly of God Church up until the time of his death.

In his free time in earlier years, Larry and Marty enjoyed fishing. He also went deer hunting with his family. More recently he enjoyed watching Nascar and was a big Dale Earnhardt fan.
